BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Buck's Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp is a unique teenage program (ages 9-16) where campers have the freedom to choose their activities in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Campers work with qualified, professional artists and teachers who nurture and support their skills and interests in professionally equipped studios.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Dance, Musical Theater, Theater, Music/Band, Video/Filmmaking/Photography, Fine Arts/Crafts, Swimming, Tennis, Waterfront/Aquatics, Volleyball, Soccer, Martial Arts, Basketball, Team Sports, Computers, Technology, Academics, and more. Creative Writing, Fencing, Martial Arts, Tennis, Archery. Private Music Lessons.
CAMP LOCATION: Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains in Central Connecticut, Buck's Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp is like no other residential summer program for teens. On approximately 140 wooded acres about 85 miles from NY, Buck's Rock is in the heart of many cultural activities which our campers are able to enjoy through off campus trips.
CAMP FACILITIES: Campers are housed by age and grade in cabins with usually 4 campers to a room/bunk. There are many professionally equipped art studios (ie: glassblowing, woodworking, painting, culinary, metal smithing, etc...), outdoor and indoor theaters, a dance studio with hard wood floors and a Marley, professional recording studio, radio station, new covered pavilion for evening activities and performances, an Animal Farm, vegetable garden, dining hall, health center, Canteen, large swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, soccer, softball, volleyball and ultimate frisbee fields, and beautiful camp grounds.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: In addition to the many programs in the performing and creative arts, Buck's Rock offers many wonderful workshops and special events throughout the summer, a very exciting and stimulating evening activities program, camper and staff performances, off-campus trips, and wonderful opportunities for learning and growth. Our staff are 21 years and older and our campers work alongside professional teachers and artists as the explore and learn. Our camper/staff ratio is an impressive two to one.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: CIT and Junior Counselor programs.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Financial Aid is available based on financial need.
OTHER CAMP INFO: Founded in 1942, Buck's Rock is a unique, co-educational, teenage program where campers have the freedom to choose their activities in a supportive, non-competitive environment and work with qualified, professional artists and teachers who nurture and support their skills and interests in professionally equipped studios.
Activities include: Acting and Musical Theater, clowning & improvisation, music, recording studio, dance, technical theater, glassblowing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, metalsmithing, ceramics, computers, leather, video, culinary arts, digital photo, weaving, sewing, batik, bookarts, creative writing, layout & design, sports, animal farm, etc.
We share the principles of Montessori, and have always believed in young peoples' ability to structure their time intelligently and make self-directed choices that tap their inherent interests most productively. Under towering oak and maple trees, our teen and junior campers discover their passions, find their voice, and experience the exhilaration of endeavor and accomplishment.
