CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Ministry Development Program is a leadership program for teen between ages 15-18. It is help at the beginning of July and compliments our SERVEstaff program which is a volunteer and intern program run throughout the summer. July 6-11, 2014

WHAT IS MDT? MDT stands for Ministry Development Training. It is a three year program that builds into the lives of youth through Biblical Teaching, Leadership Training and focused Team Building exercises. These are all designed to challenge the participants in their thinking and motivation as well as their understanding of group dynamics and their place within that group. MDT focuses on the participants to KNOW God through times of personal devotion, solitude, and corporate worship times. The heart of this ministry is to see youth grow into fully committed followers of Jesus, full of His love and empowered by His Spirit.

WHO DOES MDT?

MDT is for high school age students that are serious about learning more about themselves, their strengths and even weaknesses. It is a camp unlike any other where friendships are forged and tested, and leadership skills are taught and put to the test. So if you want to grow deeper in you understanding of God, the Bible, yourself and even the world around you; and you know that you will be able to do what it takes to be part of the team, then MDT is for you. If you have just completed grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 – then this camp is for you! The first time you sign up, you will be in Level 1. The next year you come back you will be in Level 2, and the following year you will graduate from the program as a Level 3.

MDT is intentionally a youth development program, not a camp staff training program, so it is open to all high schoolers. However, if a student IS wanting to work at camp MDT is a requirement.

Things to do at family camp: swimming, downhill water-slide, 25 foot water trampoline, water skiing, wake-boarding, outdoor education, parents only coffee shop (to die for), wide games, craft making, late night pontoon boat cruises, tubing, night games, hanging out with friends and making new ones, encounter with God time, and not doing dishes.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We offer retreats during the winter for church groups, school groups, pastors retreats, health regions and youth groups.
During the winter we have tons of fun on the outdoor skating rink, playing hockey or even curling. We also have ice fishing and snow carving as well as warm fires and even out door hot tubs for the especially brave.

OTHER CAMP INFO: A question that is at the root of our ministry is; Why? Why do we do it? Why do we come back year after year? Why do we believe in camping as a viable ministry in the life of the church and the denomination?

Why? The answer is really simple. We do it to be a place where children are cared for, where they are nourished and loved with the patience and tenderness of Jesus.

We are a place that has a passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ - where the POWER of that gospel is evident, where it is spoken about, where it is seen and cherished.

The POWER to lift up the fallen and the hurt.

The POWER to heal the sick and the sick in spirit, to heal hearts that have been broken.

The POWER to restore dreams that have been shattered by life, or even death.

The POWER to change lives for the better, to transform people into the image of Jesus Christ.

The POWER to give hope to those who have no hope.
Because we want to be a place where adults and children are taught real Bible based skills for living a life of abundance, where children are taught to obey their parents, to respect their elders and to honor God because this is His order of design.

We aim to be a place where young people are shown how to honor God with everything they have. Where teenagers are given opportunities to shine. To share their love of God with children and their love of children with God. We are a place where young leaders are given responsibilities, where they are allowed to make mistakes and gently and lovingly shown the right way.

We are a place where the Spirit of God is almost tangible, where God’s presence can be felt and seen in the faces of all those who love him.

We are a place where families can come and be ministered to, as families. Where they can enjoy God’s creation, hear the Word of God and just be cared for.

We are a place where the Truth is taught about God with compassion, even when it is uncomfortable or inconvenient.

And lastly; The Quest is not simply about FUN, although fun is a bi-product. It is not simply about baby-sitting kids for a week or two in the summer. It is not about learning to ski, or wakeboard, or learning to shoot an arrow straight. It’s not simply about learning about plants and animals, water safety, camping canoeing and wall climbing or drama or gaining self confidence or anything else you will find at a great summer camp.

It is all these things and more, it is about drawing everyone who comes through our gates at least one step closer to Jesus Christ.

It is a place where children can grow both individually and as a group. It is a place where important socializing skills are developed and where lifelong friendships are formed. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: BACKGROUND
Camp Kodiak is an integrated, non-competitive, residential camp serving children & teens with and without LD, ADHD, high-functioning ASD. Campers come from all over North America and from abroad. The primary objectives of Camp Kodiak are to build confidence and self-esteem, to teach social skills, to foster independence and to provide an exciting and satisfying camp experience. This is achieved by providing a safe and nurturing environment, a mature, professional staff, a very low camper-to-staff ratio and a program that is designed to ensure success. Staff never miss the opportunity to recognize and celebrate these successes.

PROGRAM
Camp Kodiak programs for success! All sports and activities are taught in an organized, set-by-step fashion to ensure success. Cooperation rather that competition is emphasized. There are over 50 sports, crafts, cultural and educational activities so that every camper can find several activities at which they can excel.

Core Program: Many campers are hesitant to take on new challenges. In order to ensure that they get the most out of their camp experience Kodiak has developed a core program of 12 activities to which all cabin groups are scheduled. They include the Red Cross swimming program, water-skiing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, team sports, tennis, archery, arts & crafts, drama, high ropes and rock climbing. Campers are encouraged to participate in these activities with their cabin group.

Electives: There are several times each day when campers are able to choose their own activities and pursue personal interests independent of their cabin-mates. The choices include instruction in activities of their choosing and activities that are strictly recreational.

Academics: Monday to Friday, right after breakfast, everyone in camp has an hour of academic instruction. There are two components to the academic program, Option 1 and Option 2. Campers in Option 1 receive academic tutoring. Campers in Option 2 receive instruction in an educational activity such as music, drama, dance, gymnastics, pottery, photography, computers, etc.

STAFF
An important reason for the success of our program is our staff. Approximately one half of our counselors are trained, certified professionals from the fields of education, psychology, social work and recreation. Every cabin has at least three counselors. One or two are professionals. The remaining staff are university students, most of whom are working towards a carreer in one of the helping professions. The camper-to-staff ratio is 2-to-1. All of our staff undergo a rigorous training period before the campers arrive and all new counselors go through a police background check.

MEDICAL CARE
We have a doctor and three nurses on staff. They live on-site, administer all medication and are available 24 hours a day in case of emergency. The hospital in Parry Sound is 20 minutes away.

TRANSPORTATION
Transportation to camp is by highway coach from Toronto. Camp personnel are available to meet campers at Toronto International Airport and to ensure they get their flights home at the end of camp. There is no extra charge for this service.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Camp Kodiak LITs range in age fro 16 to 18. Besides the regular camp activities, they attend workshops on ADHD, LD, ASD, team building, leadership skills and teaching methods. Then, under the supervision of our staff, they have the opportunity to work as assistant counselors with some of our younger campers. They also help organize and implement some of our evening and theme day activities.

LITs who are more suited to a vocational program act as waiters & waitresses for our younger campers. They also help out with some of our office routines and help run our camp store.

We have been doing this since 1949 in this location and each summer many children, youth, staff and volunteers return to be involved in the opportunities here. We are a Christian camp and therefore teach and model positive attitudes and values. Campers are placed in cabins with a minimum of two cabin leaders which reside day and night in the cabin with the campers.

We offer a wide range of activities which include: wake boarding, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, mountain boarding, wall climbing, zipline, paintball, field games, basketball, hip-hop dance, crafts, geo-caching, photography, survival skills, archery, hiking, and many more skills which are for the purpose of learning and having fun. Campfires are held each evening weather permitting. Our staff are full of energy and care deeply for the growth and well being of every camper. We hold a chapel service each day as well as other activities to stimulate the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical growth of each camper.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our camp operates on a Model, Ministry and Mentoring philosophy. All campers and staff fit into this method. We offer a 2 year Lit program which operates on campus as well as offers ministry and learning opportunities off of the campus. This is a discipleship, relationship and camp operation program. There are 2 terms for LIT's to take part in where each term is 3 weeks long and combine both 1st and 2nd year LIT's. The LIT program often leads into employment at camp.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: We have full and partial sponsorships available. Sponsorships are available only by contacting the director prior to camp for approval and are presented on an individual need basis.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Family Camp dates are June 26-28 and include a full range of activities for all ages of children, youth and family. Our program staff is on hand to operate boats, zipline, climbing wall. We have children's and youth activities and sessions. A relaxing time with opportunities for worship, fellowship and fun.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Our camp operates year round with a full slate of camps throughout the summer, winter camps usually in February and rentals to school groups, churches and others in the fall, winter and spring. Our programming staff are available to operate skills during the off season.

CAMP LOCATION: This Website Link

Located in Temagami Ontario, Camp Wabikon sits on the southern tip of Temagami Island on the beautiful Lake Temagami. The area is renowned for its crystal clear waters, old growth pine forests and fantastic shoreline dotted by over 1300 islands, making Wabikon without a doubt one of the finest camp locations in the province of Ontario.

CAMP FACILITIES: At Wabikon, campers live in large wooden cabins which sleep 8 to 10 campers and 2 staff members. The camp is divided into sections with the girls' cabins on one side of camp and the boys' cabins on the other. Cabins for our younger campers are located near the centre of camp, very close to shower and washroom facilities as well the large Dining and Recreation Hall and the Medical Lodge. Each section has washroom facilities close by which are equipped with electricity, individual shower stalls and flush toilets.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Wabikon is dedicated to the traditional ideals of personal development, friendship and cooperation. It is the strong belief of the Bernardo family that the camp's cooperative philosophy can best be achieved by limiting the number of campers per session to create a smaller, more intimate environment where each camper can feel like a valued member of the Wabikon family. In addition to Wabikon's full range of daily activities, our program also includes various dramatic and theme based programs mixed in throughout the session. These programs may be afternoon, evening or all day programs and organized as cabin, section or all-camp events. They are a great way to break up the daily routine with some creative, age-appropriate fun and provide an excellent opportunity for teamwork and team play.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS:
Each summer, 16/17 year-old youth from around the world travel to Temagami for Camp Wabikon's excellent Counsellor-in-Training, or 'C.I.T.' Leadership program. The six week program is carefully planned and designed to lead its participants through an educational, challenging, exciting and fun adventure that will help them bridge the gap from Camper to Staff and help prepare them for their future, both within and outside of the camping world.
